The King

This was my first foray into the joys of colored pencils. I wanted to depict a truly stately creature, The King, in all his gorgeous glory. I focused on representing his head, neck and upper body in luminous reality. Then as your eye travels down his back to the beautiful ornamental fan the depiction becomes more fantasy and eventually abstract.

The King needed to be the star, so I grounded him in his environment using light pen work and neutral tone colored pencil shading.
