Sunny Side Up

I love sunflowers, they are probably my favorite flower to grow.  They germinate so easily, grow like the famous beanstalk, create these beautiful flowers that follow the sun each day and then get bigger and fatter with seeds that the birds just love.

In this painting I really wanted to capture the vibrancy of the central flower against a cool blue sky in late summer.  Sunny Side Up is painted using a similar technique to that which I used in my Red Poppies painting, pulling together the underlying geometric shapes, inspired by stained glass or mosaic glass work.
