Rapunzel's Vine
Rapunzel's Vine
Rapunzel's Vine was inspired by the fabulous foliage creeping up the staircase at Stokesay Castle in Shropshire int he UK. The vine feels to me like it was reaching down to either let someone escape, or let you climb on up, a bike like the Rapunzel fairy tale.
This is largely an ink study, using french ultramarine and burnt sienna washes to give texture and depth to the fabric of the building. I loved keeping the vine itself complex and twisting but clean and minimalist as it climbs up into the distance.
Works with a similar vibe include Stepping into Focus, Rapunzel's Vine, and Venice Cafe.
