I Guess It's October
I Guess It's October
I Guess It's October is a study based on a photograph of a pumpkin patch on the Olympic Peninsula in Washington. I loved the composition — the late afternoon sun casting long shadows, the bright rhythm of orange fruit trailing away into the distance, eventually meeting a neat perpendicular row of pumpkins on the horizon.
There was a lot of glazing in this one: oranges and greens mixed from primaries, yellows, burnt umber and ultramarine deepening the dark crevices. Dry brush work helped carve out the texture in the smaller pumpkins and stalks. The end result just makes me smile.
