Bridge Over Elk Creek

The Olympic Peninsula in Washington State is one of the wettest parts of the US, but that means we have the most fantastic verdant, mossy forests.  In this painting I wanted to try and capture that essence - moisture in the air, light filtering through in the background, a patchwork of 101 different greens.

Not long after I painted this in 2025, the Bear Gulch fire tore through the valley out of control for weeks.  It inspired me to paint a companion piece, Not Contained, which captures the angry red and searing heat of a forest being consumed.
