Blossom and Slate

Blossom and Slate is a small but very beautiful painting that I really love.  I had just finished painting Lilac Haze, and had a palette full of reds, blues and greys just asking to create something new.  I often find myself playing around with this color combination, which is also represented in Amethyst Grove.

I think the ink and the blue tones do a lot of the descriptive work here, hinting at mountains in the distance, trees on the horizon and strata carved into the mid ground like the edge of a quarry or ancient water worn rock formation.  But, like a lot of my more interpretative work, it is designed for you to decide what you see.
