Tuscan Alps - Framed

This work started based on memories of the northern part of Tuscany, where the Apuan mountains hover in the distance and the shrubby macchia bushes glow russet red in the hills. I started the original watercolor a while ago but was never really happy with the way the mountains and sky interacted. One of the great things about art is the option to revisit and tweak, and I spent time recently on having the mountains recede into the distance and also had a lot of fun building details and layers into the foreground macchia with fine ink work. I love the final picture; it is small but gives off a late summer intensity that really takes me to Tuscany.

The framed original art is part of the Peninsula Art League Art of Drawing Exhibition and is on sale, framed to 11" x 14".
